Russia's Performance At Eurovision: How'd They Do That?

Russia contestant Sergey Lazarev performed "You Are the Only One" at Eurovision Song Contest, and about halfway through his performance, the crowd gasped in wonder of how he appeared to climb into, lay among, and leap around in his accompanying projections.

The screen surface was actually a spandex-like white fabric, behind which steps, unseen by the audience, sat at various intervals. Lazarev actually stepped into the soft screen, pushing it back ever so slightly to hit each mark, and even sitting back on one shelf to appear to completely float in the imagery. The result was an incredibly stunning effect, especially along with the camera work for the broadcast.

The production featured video screens and content design by Mikki Kunttu, with video programming by Neil TrenellPekka Martti, and Fraser Walker.
