New England’s Mohegan Sun Cabaret Shines With Meyer Sound

One of New England’s busiest resort destinations, the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, boasts everything from a glowing crystal mountain and a spectacular planetarium to a 1,200-room luxury hotel and spa, a massive casino, and three celebrated entertainment venues.

A more intimate performance space at Mohegan, Cabaret Theatre features a year-round schedule of concerts, comedy shows, and Broadway-style productions. The 300-seat theatre has been upgraded to a Meyer Sound M’elodie™ line array loudspeaker system, replacing its left-right-center MSL-4 and CQ-1 loudspeaker configuration, also from Meyer Sound.

“We’ve used Meyer Sound systems in the Cabaret, as well as for ‘floating’ tasks throughout the facility,” says Matt Diamond, Mohegan Sun’s director of audio. “There’s really no other loudspeaker that comes close. When we looked into redesigning the Cabaret, the M’elodies were an ideal fit. They’re small enough not to interfere with sightlines, but they’re more powerful than speakers twice the size. And the coverage is phenomenal.”

Two arrays of eight M’elodies serve as the main system. Four UPM-1P loudspeakers provide front fills, and a Galileo™ loudspeaker management system handles system processing. The system was provided by Mt. Vernon, NY-based PRG Audio and installed by John Paul Peregrin, Robert Nolan, and James Czelusniak of the Mohegan Sun.

Since the installation, Frank Sinatra Jr., Joan Rivers, Tony Danza, Colbie Caillat, Aisha Tyler and Emmy®-winning Wanda Sykes have all performed with the M’elodie system. Diamond finds that artists look forward to playing at Mohegan Sun because they know they can expect great sound:

“We’ve got a reputation of delivering great shows here, and a big part of that is providing a world-class sound system to our performers,” says Diamond. “People who have been in this room many times are coming up to me and telling me how much they like the new system. It sounded pretty good before, but I think it definitely sounds even better now.”
