The Village Voice presented its 59th annual Obie Awards on May 19th at Webster Hall in Greenwich Village. The Obie Awards honor Off-Broadway and off-off Broadway theatre.

2014 Broadway Master Classes speaker Justin Townsend won an Obie for sustained achievement in lighting design. Townsend was also recently awarded a Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lighting Design for Here Lies Love, and was received the USITT Rising Star Award in 2006. Townsend has worked with top designers, including Christopher Akerlind, Christopher Barreca, and Doug Stein.

Lighting designer Eric Southern also won for his work for The Correspondent at Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
