Live Design, LDI, and Nemetschek North America, makers of Vectorworks, sponsored a cocktail reception on Friday, March 21 at USITT in Cincinnati, Ohio, in honor of the 2009 USITT Rising Star winner, lighting designer Sean Savoie. The Rising Star Award, sponsored in perpetuity by Live Design and LDI, is presented annually during the USITT conference  in recognition of artistic achievement in the areas of scenic, lighting, sound, and projection design, or the convergence of these design disciplines by a young professional. His award included a 2009 Vectorworks software package, presented by Kevin Lindsey.

Savoie, who earned his MFA at the University of Cincinnati, currently works as an LD and production manager in St. Louis. Robert Henke, chair of the Performing Arts Department at Washington University praised Savoie as follows:

“Sean Savoie has performed astonishingly well during his first year and a half at Washington University. His lighting designs for our dance and theater productions have been positively remarkable: subtle, daring, technically impeccable, innovative, and captivating… He clearly works at the state-of-the-art threshold, not merely maintaining our lighting and technical equipment but continually innovating and developing our technical range. He is the quintessential go-getter: energetic, optimistic, independent, and fueled by a seemingly inexhaustible energy source.”
