David Atkins Enterprises Sets Guinness World Record Largest Video-Mapping

David Atkins Enterprises (DAE) delivered the largest 3D video-mapping show ever attempted in celebration of Alfa Bank’s 20th anniversary and Moscow’s 864th birthday.

Setting a Guinness World Record, Moscow: A Journey of Rediscovery and Reinvention integrated live performance, scenic, and special effects into the 3D video mapping that covered the 25,500sq-m. surface of Moscow State University. Check out the entire video below.

Eighty-one Christie Digital projectors were used to cover the building facade, 20,000-lumen and 35,000-lumen models, all supplied by ETC Russia. The content was distributed via fiber optic cable using a DVI signal output. Projectors were linked through Onlyview™ proprietary software system to synchronize the units into a single panoramic projection. Content included legendary French free-climber Alain Robert (the “French Spiderman”) scaling the surface and Russian opera diva Anna Polovinkina sang from the "Prince Igor Suite.”

PRG provided a crew from PRG Belgium and lighting gear, including an MA Lighting grandMA console. The portico was lit using DTS Delta 7 RGB units, Martin Professional MAC 2000 XB washes, PRG Bad Boys, and Space Cannon Ireos 7K searchlights. The stage was lit with a mix of Philips Vari-Lite VL3000 Spots, Martin MAC 2000 XB washes, and Lycian long throw followspots. The local Russian crew in charge of all the infrastructure was Kometa Productions. Flash Art supplied flame units, and Spinifex Group created content.

Pyrotechnics and special effects were supplied by Orion Art, with more than 5,000 condensed explosive charges and fireworks effects lighting up the night sky, and 50,000 balloons released to celebrate Moscow’s birthday.

The 30-minute show—created and directed by David Atkins, CEO of DAE—was watched live by 800,000 people, and culminated in a square-wide celebration with musical group B2. “We were incredibly honored when Alfa Bank asked us to bring our signature style to Moscow for its Federal City Day,” says Atkins, also known for his work on the Ceremonies of the Sydney 2000 Olympics, Doha 2006 Asian Games, and Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games. “It was only fitting to pull out all stops to stage the largest video mapping ever attempted on a building and set a Guinness World Record in the process.”
