Entertainment technology company Technifex has been tapped to create the special effects for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
Technifex has been designing and building special effects for theme parks and corporate displays since 1984, but this is the first Olympics for the company.
"It's a tremendous opportunity for Technifex," says Rock Hall, Technifex's chairman and producer for the project. "This is a chance to show the world what we can do. We have been working closely with Don Mischer Productions for over a year now on the design and have gone through numerous prototypes to try out different effects. This is going to be a great event. People will see things they've never seen before."
Technifex senior project Manager Kurt Wilson is the overall special effects supervisor for the project. The opening and closing ceremonies are being produced by 2002 Events, Inc. Don Mischer of Don Mischer Productions is the executive producer. Jeremy Railton of Entertainment Design Corporation is the production designer.
