Twelve years after the earth-shattering events of September 11, 2001, Live Design remembers, both what the industry did in response and what people faced in the aftermath, personally and professionally. On this day of remembrance, we’re looking back at the many ways our industry was affected by the events of 9/11/01, some terrible, many hopeful.

Michael S. Eddy wrote about the many companies and individuals that pitched in to help with the relief effort. And more was covered later about companies aiding in search and rescue.

Lighting designer Herrick Goldman posted this touching letter on the Stagecraft mailing list. Also check out the many folks who wrote in to share their thoughts in reaction, and the obituary of young Dan Lee, a set carpenter who was on American Airlines flight 11.

On Sept. 11, 2002, moving memorial services were held in the Pennsylvania field where Flight 93 crashed, and in Washington, D.C., on the National Mall, close to the Pentagon, and two major shows featured High End Systems gear with Flying Pig Systems Wholehog® consoles at the helm, all provided by See Factor of Long Island City, NY.

In New York City tonight, "The 'Tribute in Light' will be seen on the night of September 11, 2013, one night only, in tribute to those lost on 9/11. The lights are located at West and Morris Streets in lower Manhattan, and can be seen from dusk to dawn.
