Creative consultant, Jeff Ravitz, lighting designer for Bruce Springsteen among others, has announced a dynamic line-up for the fourth annual Live Design Concert Master Classes, with a stellar line-up of speakers, from veteran "star" concert LDs Marc Brickman, John Broderick, and Peter Morse, as well as newcomer Tobias Rylander, director Raj Kapoor, lighting designer/programmers Jason Badger, Cory FitzGerald, and Benny Kirkham, projection designer Loren Barton, and artist managers Wil Sharpe and Todd Cameron are all on the roster. Should be one of the most incredible examinations of concert lighting and projection ever!

Saturday, December 7:

8:00am-9:00am: Registration and continental breakfast at Ronald Tutor Center Ballroom, USC

9:00am-10:30am: AN OVERVIEW OF CONCERT LIGHTING DESIGN: Jeff Ravitz’ highly personalized take on the state of lighting for the touring stage

10:30am-10:45am: Break

10:45am-12:15pm: ONE-ON-ONE WITH THE CREATIVE GROUNDBREAKER, MARC BRICKMAN: The background, philosophies, opinions and design techniques of one of our most creative and groundbreaking lighting designers, in a one-on-one discussion with Jeff Ravitz.

12:15pm-2:15pm: Lunch and Manufacturer’s Showcase

2:15pm-3:45pm: DESIGN METHODS  Designer/programmer Cory FitzGerald, who has collaborated with LeRoy Bennett for many years, has worked on the lighting for dozens of shows covering a wide spectrum of styles and productions. He will elaborate on their design methods and procedures and how they keep it fresh after so many years and designs. Loren Barton and Tobias Rylander adds the younger designers' fresh eye and perspective.

3:45pm-4:00pm: Break

4:00pm-5:30pm: MEDIA & IMAGERY: Visualists Raj Kapoor and Loren Barton discuss the realities of projection and video: Is it lighting? Is it scenery? Where to begin in the content and screen design process, and how to integrate. How much coordination with artist and management occurs? Who does it: the LD or a dedicated video/content designer? LED screens VS projection: do you design differently for each?

9:00am-10:30am: DESIGNERS WHO PROGRAM: THE DESIGN PERSPECTIVE FROM BEHIND THE CONSOLE: Lighting designers/programmers Jason Badger, Cory FitzGerald, and Benny Kirkham discuss the programmer's role and how they extend the reach of the designer. A look at the designer who programs his/her own show: Advantages? Pitfalls? And: how to get the most from a programmer.

10:30am-10:45am: Break

10:45am-12:15pm: THE BUSINESS OF THE BUSINESS: Artist managers Wil Sharpe and Todd Cameron answer such question as: Why do designers, programmers and imagery creators need business and career management? Are the tour managers and performers' managers receptive? What are the pitfalls and how are they overcome and solved? Is representation for everyone? Will it eventually be as common as it is for the performers? Should young designers create a career plan just like a business plan? For those without representation, advice and tips for marketing, negotiating, protecting.

12:15pm-2:15pm: Lunch and Manufacturer’s Showcase

2:15pm-3:45pm: ANATOMY OF A PERMANENT SHOW: Peter Morse, the highly-respected designer of Shania Twain in Vegas and on-tour, along with show director, Raj Kapoor, and programmer Benny Kirkham, talk about the challenges and techniques of designing large, high-budget permanent shows. What goes into the design of a concert that will play in one venue for months or years? How does it differ from designing a tour?

3:45pm-4:00pm: Break

4:00pm-5:30pm: MEET JOHN BRODERICK: Metallica's long-time lighting designer discusses his design process for the heavy metal band as well as for a wide variety of other genres in which he has worked. The design for Metallica's new 3D movie, "Through The Never," will be detailed.
