Acuity Brands Lighting announced that lighting designer Martin Kinnane will headline the October 2-4, 2005, "Festival of Lights" sponsored by the company.
Kinnane, one of the most sought-after lighting designers in Australia, designed the lighting for Sydney's famous New Year's Eve celebration for the past five years and has worked on numerous other high-profile projects in that country. "We are pleased and excited that Martin Kinnane accepted our invitation to be keynote speaker during our 'Festival of Lights', " said ABL's Jimalee Dakin, festival director. "His lighting expertise and extensive experience will provide a valuable exchange of ideas for event participants." The upcoming "Festival of Lights" is the third such event hosted by Acuity Brands Lighting at its Atlanta-area headquarters campus.
"Festival of Lights" provides two days of intensive training and field work for selected specifiers interested in expanding their knowledge of light and color in outdoor environments. Fashioned after the annual "Festival of Lights" celebration in Lyon, France, the Acuity Brands Lighting workshop culminates with a spectacular nighttime lighting display as teams of participants unveil their final projects.
Kinnane graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art (in Sydney) in 1991 and recently completed work on My Secret Circus for the National Institute of Circus Arts; Defending the Caveman for Ross Mollison Productions; Art, Vincent in Brixton, and Harp in the Willow for the Ensemble Theatre; and Satango for the Stables. Among his many other lighting credits, Kinnane also was responsible for the NYE/Sydney Festival's City of Light Project including the design for the Sydney Harbour Bridge, the Independence Day Ceremonies for East Timor, and lighting for the Sydney Symphony SuperDome Spectacular 2003.
Lighting specifiers can contact their local Acuity Brands Lighting sales representative for more information and to register for the program.
