For the seventh year, ETC (Electronic Theatre Controls, Inc.) is giving six deserving college students the opportunity to attend LDI 2006. Applications will be available at USITT in Louisville, KY, March 30-April 1, 2006. Students interested in applying can pick up applications at ETC’s booth #610. Students not attending the show can download applications from ETC’s website www.etcconnect.com.

The ETC Sponsorships are open to undergraduate seniors and graduate students in lighting design, theatre technology, or closely related fields. Each student will receive roundtrip airfare to the tradeshow, which will be held October 20-22nd in Las Vegas, NV; hotel accommodations; all meals; a full conference pass; an exclusive student reception; and ETC swag. Sponsorship recipients will see the latest in entertainment technology, meet industry leaders and peers, and go behind the scenes with ETC. The Sponsorship application deadline is April 28, 2006.

Past LDI Interns already have impressive accomplishments on their resumés. Kristie Roldan (ETC LDI ‘Class of 2003’), one of Entertainment Design’s 2005 Young Designers to Watch, has worked for Disney Imagineering in Disneyland. Currently a project designer with Visual Terrain, Roldan was on the lighting design team that collaborated with Alessandro Arena, the original lighting designer of Gregory Colbert’s acclaimed Ashes and Snow exhibit at the ‘Nomadic Museum’ at the Santa Monica Pier. Another ETC Sponsorship alumnus, M. Scott Grabau (2003), has been working as a sound and lighting designer in the San Diego area. He recently received the KPBS Patté Award for Theater Excellence in sound design for a production of Sam Sheppard's Curse of the Starving Class. David Griffie (2004) went on after LDI to earn his MFA in Scenography from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and is currently teaching Lighting and Scene Design at the College of the Albemarle in North Carolina.
