Entertainment Design, Lighting Dimensions and The Entertainment Technology Show/LDI have announced the creation of a new “Rising Star” Award to be presented annually during the USITT Stage Expo and Conference.
“This award will recognize an outstanding talent in entertainment design and production — someone who has completed their studies but is still under the age of 30,” says David Johnson, associate publisher and editorial director for ED and LD.
The announcement was made on Saturday, March 20 at the 2004 USITT Awards Banquet in Long Beach, CA, at which time a $25,000 pledge was made to sponsor the “Rising Star” Award in perpetuity.
“USITT is delighted to have Entertainment Design, Lighting Dimensions and The Entertainment Technology Show/LDI permanently fund this new award,” says Bruce Brockman, outgoing USITT president. “It will afford us an opportunity to recognize outstanding young professionals in the design and production fields in the first few years of their career.”
The first “Rising Star” Award will be presented at USITT in Toronto in March 2005, and will be selected through recommendations by professional designers and educators.
