DENVER, Colorado - September 2008 -- The Las Vegas location of Production Resource Group (PRG) reports that it deployed full L-ACOUSTICS loudspeaker systems for two high-profile events staged in Denver during the recent Democratic National Convention.
The first production, Rock The Vote's "Ballot Bash", served as a star-studded event showcasing the power of the youth vote in the 2008 U.S. Presidential election. Featuring performances from Fall Out Boy, N*E*R*D, Jakob Dylan and others, Ballot Bash rocked over 2,500 attendees at the tri-level Ellie Caulkins Opera House starting at 10:00 p.m. on August 25th, providing an energizing close to the first day of DNC festivities.
According to PRG Las Vegas lead audio engineer John Wrote, the venue had an existing L-ACOUSTICS system comprised of 12 dV-DOSC per side for FOH, a cluster of eight ARCS addressing the upper balcony, and a dozen SB118 subwoofers. To better accommodate the intensity of the acts that night, PRG supplemented the rig with an additional five V-DOSC per side ground-stacked on the stage and accompanied by four SB28 subs set up in a cardioid configuration directly behind them. Monitoring for the evening was handled by 16 of PRG's newly purchased 115XT HiQ wedges, all driven by LA8 amplified controllers. Furthermore, side-fill was delivered by two ARCS over two SB28 per side, while six 108a were positioned across the stage lip for front-fill.
Then, on Wednesday afternoon, Wrote put many of those same enclosures into action at a rally attended by hundreds of healthcare workers, delegates, advocates and working families in Sunken Gardens Park, just steps away from the Pepsi Center. Hosted by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the "Rally To Fix Healthcare NOW" featured performances from Chuck D and Professor Griff of Public Enemy, Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla of Death Cab For Cutie, and Denver's own DeVotchKa, plus speeches from noted author and radio commentator Jim Hightower among others.
"Seeing that the venue for Rock The Vote's Ballot Bash already had a permanent L-ACOUSTICS system installed, it made sense to supplement the rig with products from the same family," says Wrote. "Plus, we knew that the boxes we brought with us would also need to be able to cover anywhere from a couple hundred up to a couple thousand people for the healthcare rally, so V-DOSC was the logical choice there as well.
"But, honestly, L-ACOUSTICS is the only product I care to use these days. And not just V-DOSC; the company's newer products are fantastic, too. Our office in Vegas just took delivery of 18 115XT HiQ stage wedges and I've been extremely pleased with them. Plus, I just did a Daughtry concert at Red Rock Casino using 20 SB28 subs and they produced the most thunderous sound. I was absolutely stunned. I'd say that it was the equivalent of the 32 older SB218 subs we had out on the last Nickelback tour, which is amazing."
