K/A/S Lighting, part of the Kaufman Astoria Studios (KAS) complex in New York City is providing the lighting and grip equipment for the Today Show and NBC Nightly News broadcasts in Vancouver during the Winter Olympics. This is the third time this lighting team has worked with NBC during the Olympics. The team provided lighting for both the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China.
“When NBC called to request our lighting services for a third time we were ecstatic about working with the Today Show and NBC Nightly News again,” said Hal Rosenbluth, president of Kaufman Astoria Studios. Locations include studio lighting for The Today Show, certain outdoor events on Grouse Mountain, and indoor sequences in Lodge and other venues in Vancouver.
The K/A/S Lighting team, led by vice president Mike Spera, worked with the NBC producers to ensure the crew had everything they needed while on location around Vancouver. K/A/S Lighting carries a full line of tungsten and HMI lighting, combo trucks and trailers with 1,400 amp Crawford generators, base camp generators on flat beds, and grip equipment.
“Our team works closely with the producers and crew to ensure they have all of the resources necessary to produce a show while on location. The NBC team came back to us once again because we will make sure the crew is well equipped to handle any situation that may arise during the Olympics,” said Spera.
