, pioneer of the modern line array loudspeaker, recently held the worldwide launch of Soundvision, an acoustical simulation program designed for the installation of the company’s Wavefront Sculpture Technology® (V-DOSC®, dV-DOSC® and ARCS®) and Coaxial Point Source Technology (XT and MTD) loudspeakers.
Benefiting from the manufacturer’s many years of experience in the modeling of acoustic sound sources, L-Acoustics’ first three-dimensional sound design program is capable of operating in real-time. Designed with a convenient, intuitive graphical user interface, Soundvision can calculate sound pressure levels (SPL) and coverage map for complex sound system or venue configurations.
Room geometry and loudspeaker locations are defined in 3D, but simplified operating modes in 2D permit the user to rapidly enter data. According to user preference, either horizontal (plan) or vertical (cut) views can be selected to enter room coordinates or to define loudspeaker placement/aiming. SPL plus coverage mapping are then based on direct sound calculations over the defined audience geometry where each loudspeaker model is calibrated based on a reference user preset.
Designed for Windows® XP/2000/Me/98SE, Soundvision features a user-friendly interface with multiple toolboxes for the convenient entry of room and loudspeaker data, while at the same time displaying coverage or mapping results along with 2D Cutview, Target and Source Cutview information. All toolboxes can be displayed simultaneously, providing the user with a complete control interface for rapid system optimization.
Using sophisticated modeling algorithms, Soundvision offers several levels of technical support for users of L-Acoustics products. Due to its speed and ease-of-use, "coverage" mode is well suited to the needs of touring sound engineers and touring sound companies. More detailed information is available in "mapping" mode, providing an invaluable tool for the audio consultant or sound designer. For the installer, the physical properties provided in "mechanical data" mode provide useful practical information for fixed installation applications.
