Sardi's Hosts Day Three of Broadway Lighting Master Classes
BLMC visits theatrical landmark
On Thursday, May 27, the third day of the 2010 Broadway Lighting Master Classes (BLMC) will be held at Sardi’s, the quintessential theatre district restaurant at 234 West 44th Street in Manhattan. The schedule of events runs from 10am-2pm and comprises a luncheon and the final two BLMC panels:
1) Robert Wierzel, lighting designer for FELA! —which BLMC attendees will see on May 25— discusses his lighting for this hit Broadway musical;
2) Design Collaboration on FELA! : Featuring LD Robert Wierzel, projection designer Peter Nigrini, set/costume designer Marina Draghici, and writer (book and additional lyrics) Jim Lewis
Located in the heart of the theatre district for over 80 years, Sardi’s has hundreds of caricatures of show-business celebrities that adorn its walls. Sardi's opened at its current location on March 5, 1927, and is where the idea for the Tony Awards was first launched, after the death of Antoinette Perry in 1946, and for many years the Tony nominations were announced at the restaurant.
“Quite a few years ago the BLMC concluded with a brunch and collaboration panel,” notes conference director Ellen Lampert-Gréaux. “We thought it would be fun to return to that format and conclude this year’s Classes in an informal setting that helps promote networking. Sardi’s has just the right theatrical flair for an event like this.”
