Scharff Weisberg Lighting has signed an agreement with IATSE Local 1, the stagehands’ union in New York. The lighting company’s staff are now members of the union and all rental packages will be assembled and tested by union members.

Scharff Weisberg, a mainstay in the audio/visual market, formed its lighting division in the spring of this year, hiring Ben Saltzman and Ron Brodeur and offering lighting services and equipment. Scharff Weisberg Lighting operates as a standalone, full-service lighting rental, sales, and support company, and also provides lighting support to Scharff Weisberg’s staging and systems integration jobs.

“When we formed Scharff Weisberg Lighting, we intended to compete at all levels as a top-notch, New York-based lighting rental company,” says Saltzman. “Having access to the IATSE Local 1 labor pool provides us with, by far, the most qualified staff available. We view our affiliation as a strong foundation upon which we can build a strong business.”
