EXTRAVAGANZA

Celine Dion's New Day in Vegas
This is the Big One, a $150 million dollar spectacle created solely to show off the talents of North America's top singing star. As Ellen Lampert-Greaux reports, it's a ground-breaking presentation that, in its innovative use of LED technology and its blend of lighting and scenery, will prove influential for years to come. Ellen goes backstage with LD Yves Aucoin to learn how he created his design--and about his 14-year stint with Dion. The stunning lineup of equipment includes gear from Clay Paky, Vari-Lite, ETC, Computer, Robert Juliat, MDG, Strand, E\T\C Audiovisuel, Mitsubishi, and Syncrolite.

CONCERTS

Kenny Chesney
LD Mike Swinford is the man in charge, with a package that includes gear from Vari-Lite and High End Systems.

ARCHITECTURE

COPIA
The new American Center for Wine, Food, and the Arts, in Napa CA is a cultural museum and educational center dedicated to exploring the distinctively American contribution to the character of wine, food, and the arts. The 80,00 sq. ft. center includes a 280--seat theatre and a space for cooking demonstrations. Auerbach + Glasow worked with architect Polshek Partnership on an artfully designed lighting system.

The Lumen Awards
Once again, LD presents a stunning layout of this year's winners. Find out whose projects got the nod this year.

TECHNOLOGY

Video Technology for LDs
With the converge of lighting and projection technology upon us, LDs need to know much more about projections and how they work. Robert Mokry gives you the lowdown different formats, video resolution, and projection and how video projections are used in specific projects.

Custom Gobo Primer
Color gobos are all the rage. Prices have dropped, making them accessible to all sorts of end users. But there are many factors that can affect how your gobos turn out, including the quality of the artwork provided, the production of the artwork, and the manufacturing of the gobos themselves. Michael Eddy tells you how to provide the right kind of artwork, looks at production options, and discusses to how to evaluate the final product.

Bring Back the PC
Long out of favor in this country, the PC (plano-convex) unit is a favorite in Europe and elsewhere. Dance and theatre LD (and BLMC speaker) Clifton Taylor issues a passionate defense of the PC, which, he says, has been wrongly overlooked. Can this unit find a home in the US?
