The International Communications Industries Association, Inc.® (ICIA®) announced that it is partnering with Kayye Consulting, Inc. and other key pro-AV industry leaders to support Kayye Consulting’s AV/IT Networking certification curriculum and course.

Tapping into the growing convergence of audiovisual and information technology, particularly in the area of AV presentation systems, the AV/IT Networking Course will focus on a practical approach to selling, designing, and programming audiovisual presentation systems using IT infrastructure.

Offered as part of ICIA’s InfoComm Academy training program, the AV/IT Networking Course is sponsored by ICIA; AV manufacturers (Biamp, Crestron, Da-Lite and Sanyo); Kayye Consulting, a strategic marketing firm for the pro-AV industry; and Sound & Communications, a prominent trade magazine for the AV industry.

“Ensuring that our AV professionals have the knowledge they need to stay ahead of the positioning of AV communications technology within information technology and telecommunications has been a key strategic goal,” said Randal A. Lemke, Ph.D., executive director of ICIA. “This development combines the expertise and knowledge of several pro-AV industry leaders with ICIA’s InfoComm Academy infrastructure. It also combines the use of ICIA’s online Audio-Video and Control System Networking course which is to be completed by all students prior to entering the classroom.”

According to Jody Thomas, CEO, of Kayye Consulting, “The impact of the network on the professional audiovisual market will be very analogous to the impact video had on this market 30 years ago. Networking is both a communications protocol as well as a transport protocol and that’s what we do. The pro-AV market transmits data and video for communication and presentations and this course will help the AV/IT convergence opportunities stay in the pro-AV market – with AV dealers.”

The course registration covers all handouts and other related materials. Registration fees are $1,000 for ICIA members and $1,300 for non-ICIA members. When the course is offered by Kayye Consulting, scholarship in the form of co-op monies will pay for 50 percent of the tuition for those who attend at Kayye Consulting in Chapel Hill, N.C. When the course is offered by ICIA, up to 50 percent of the tuition can be paid for with ICIA EduBucks.

Those interested in taking the two-day AV/IT Networking course should complete ICIA’s online course Audio-Video and Control System Networking to prepare for the class. Registration for the course is available at www.infocomm.org.

The next AV/IT Networking Course will take place in at Kayye Consulting in North Carolina on July 14 to 15, 2003. The rest of the courses for this year will either be conducted at Kayye Consulting or at the ICIA Academy in Fairfax.
