Now in their fourth year, The Redden Awards for Excellence in Lighting—sponsored annually by Epic Production Technologies—honor outstanding designers in the areas of concert, theatre, and corporate/special event lighting. The 2012 Redden Awards will be presented on Saturday, October 20 on the LDI2012 show floor at the Live Design booth (#1831) at 5pm as part of LDI’s 25th anniversary celebration

The 2012 winner in the concert field is UK-based Al Gurdon, whose projects range from the MTV European Music Awards, The Brit Awards, the Nobel Peace Prize Concert, and the Eurovision Song Contest to the Super Bowl Halftime Show and Madonna’s recent MDNA Tour. 

For theatre, The Redden Award goes to Tony Award winner Kevin Adams, whose innovative lighting style set a new benchmark on Broadway for such hits as Spring Awakening, Passing Strange, Hair, and American Idiot. He is currently designing the lighting for the newest iteration of Blue Man Group at the Monte Carlo in Las Vegas. 

For corporate/special events, the Redden winner is Abigail Rosen Holmes. Her recent work includes Dancing with the Stars Live in Las Vegas, LG Thrill Presents Jane’s Addiction Comes Alive, and the YouTube Play Biennial Event at the Guggenheim Museum. She is currently working on Caesar’s High Roller Observation Wheel and the New Yaohan Kid’s Cavern Store at the Venetian in Macau.

The Redden Awards for Excellence in Lighting Design were named in honor of the late Craig Redden who was a vice president at Epic at the time of his sudden passing in 2008. Redden began his career in 1978 when he stopped into a newly opened rental shop then called Westsun Media and formed an immediate friendship with company founder Marc Raymond who later invited Redden to join the company full-time. After years of prepping, touring, and teching every kind of event, Redden took on a well-earned senior management role at what had become Westsun International. In 2002, Redden joined Raymond in the newly formed Q1 Production Technologies as vice president/rentals where he focused on US and International business development.

"Craig worked his way up through every aspect of the touring industry to become the best account rep in the business,” says Raymond. “He especially admired the great lighting designers he worked with and ultimately understood that the essence of a successful lighting company was its ability to make sure that each designer’s vision could be fully realized. We are so pleased that through our friends at Live Design and LDI we have this opportunity to show how much we appreciated Craig and how much he appreciated the art of lighting design.”
