Mayer Hawthorne Tours with Bandit Lites

NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE– Rising star and neo-soul singerMayer Hawthorne embarked on a headlining tour this September with a lighting package from Bandit Lites. The singer-songwriter and DJ has been stunning audiences on Conan, The David Letterman Show, and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon with his funk-infused soulful sounds.

Since his 2008 debut, Hawthorne has released three full length albums and toured with Bruno Mars, Foster the People, and the late Amy Winehouse. His latest album Where Does This Door Go includes fusions of funk, hip-hop to even metal.

Lighting designer Mason Ford placed VL2500 Spots on top of 5’ truss, Sharpys on top of 8’ truss in addition to Mac 101’s.

“The design was originally supposed to, in my mind, add atmosphere to the set, without effecting or distracting from the performance,” Ford said. “I wanted to create more of an autonomous set, not an outright lightshow.”

I had 4 VL2500 Spot's, 2 on top of 5' truss, 4 Sharpy's, 2 on top of 8' truss, and 4 Mac 101's. My desk was a Road Hog. There weren't very many difficulties with the tour, or the design. My main issue was a lack of proper programming time, but things were smoothed out over the next few days. A few minor equipment issues occurred, but they were sparse and easily solved.

Ford, whose brother Charles Ford also works as the lighting designer for Carly Rae Jepson and Hot Chelle Rae, was introduced to Bandit by his lighting teacher Jeff New.

“I've always been a big fan of Bandit. I rented gear from for my first tour two years ago when I was 18 and slightly less experienced and they made the experience simple and satisfying. I've never experienced a friendlier, more accommodating or capable lighting company. It was very good to know any error I had was only a call away to fix.”
"Any time we do a Mayer Hawthorne show, we're always trying to make sure it's the best show you've seen in your life," Hawthorne told Rolling Stone Magazine in June. "I want to make sure that nobody ever wants their money back when they come to see Mayer Hawthorne."
