Sound Product of the Year, Microphone: Sennheiser MKE-1

Shrek The Musical on Broadway beta-tested the Sennheiser MKE-1 earlier this year. We can only assume that’s gotta mean one thing: faith in its sound. “We took delivery of the first batch,” says Shrek sound designer Peter Hylenski. “It’s a fantastic product—half the size of what we were using before.” With only a 3.3mm capsule diameter and a 1mm diameter cable, to make Broadway in beta, we bet this little mic sounds pretty good, too. Our judges concur, commenting on its “super tiny” size, with one judge really boiling it down: “I’m a big fan.”
