HES DL.2 Debuts On Sheryl Crow Tour

High End Systems’ new DL.2™ digital light fixture makes its US debut on Sheryl Crow’s Wildflower tour, which began Sunday, October 16.

LD Paul Guthrie specified four DL.2s and is using them to project onto an aluminum mesh curtain. He’s also using three HES Catalyst® Pro media servers to drive other parts of the show including the projection and some LED fixtures.

“I was quite impressed with the brightness [of the DL.2s],” says Guthrie. “The fact that the server is self-contained appealed to me, too.”

Though DL.2 has on-board content, Guthrie says his company, Toss Film & Design Inc. of Minneapolis, supplied 95 percent of the show’s media. He’s also supplying 98 percent of the Catalyst content as well. “I’m using Catalyst because it is an easy way for me to manage my content,” he explains.

XL Touring Video president John Wiseman, who was formerly with High End Systems when the DL.2 was undergoing development, bought the first five DL2 units off the production line for this tour. XL Touring Video of Los Angeles is supplying five DL.2s (one acts as a spare), the three Catalysts, two SLM R12 Barco projectors, and video projectionist Keith Lockette.

DL.2, winner of five industry awards, is a digital automated lighting fixture with an integrated media server. It also features the Digital Eye Technology Sony video camera and illuminator, providing a remote control camera network. The Catalyst Pro media server allows the user to apply visual and color effects to media, and it controls and triggers external video switchers and playback devices.

The tour runs October 16-31 in the US, ending November 4 in London.
