Stage Technologies designed F:light for a pretty good reason: to bridge the gap that existed for years between lighting and automation. F:light aims to change all that. What our judges call “a very clever system” allows moving lights to follow the motion of automated scenery and performers, remaining under the control of the lighting department. “Making lights follow flying performers or other scenery—I needed this on a show nine years ago, so better late than never,” jokes one judge. The system uses realtime automation data to accurately follow objects as they move, not just with pan and tilt, but also to maintain constant beam size.
