Drape Kings Founder and CEO Dru Whitacre shared his 30 plus years of knowledge and experience in a 90-minute seminar at The Special Event 2014 in Nashville this January.
Whitacre covered a wide range of topics, from fabrics for all occasions to hardware 101 when he addressed an audience of business owners, decision makers, production managers, and designers. He also discussed the importance of fabric finishes, flat vs. fullness, and the “hot” topic of flame resistance: FR vs IFR. The audience, which drew professionals from around the world, also learned about “brilliance” when Whitacre spoke about specialty applications, such as layers, traveler tracks, kabuki reveals, step & repeats, and an impressive range of lighting techniques used to achieve a “wow” effect.
"Dru's seminars are wonderful!” said Jay Sims, owner of Event Sales and Design. “He shows beautiful photographs of Drape Kings’ work and explains the details of the drape material, hardware, and installation. And that is what we want to know: ‘How did you do that?’”
Whitacre, who founded Drape Kings in 1996, will be featured on two upcoming panels-- “Draping Techniques that Add Profit” and “Create Desired Effects with LED Lights”--at The American Rental Show’s Events & Tents show in Orlando this February. “Sharing our knowledge helps to enhance the special events and audio-visual industries, and we are happy to do so,” said Whitacre.
