Chauvet Rocks Ozzfest

Jul 27, 2007 1:08 PM

Chauvet continues its steady foray into the touring industry with a strong presence at this summer’s Ozzfest. The manufacturer exclusively lights the Jägermeister’s Mobile Stage, a one-of-a-kind self-contained portable stage, which premiered in July as the secondary stage for the heavy metal festival. When not in use, it appears to be just another huge 34ft trailer, but at the push of a button, it unfolds à la the Transformers to reveal a professional stage dubbed “revolutionary” by the likes of Sharon Osbourne. The complete sound and lighting rig is set up in minutes, and is a resounding success with all levels of touring artists. Witness Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil’s approving nod: "The stage is an awesome portable stage with top notch sound and lights. I look forward to playing on it again.”

All power for the stage comes from a built-in generator, and with a sound system designed for an audience of 10,000, power constraints were a prime consideration when the lighting system was planned. Designers found a solution in power-saving LED fixtures in line with the show’s “cutting-edge” image, says tour manager Jack Carson, of Jägermeister’s parent Sydney Frank Importing Company. “Going to Chauvet for our LED lighting system was a no-brainer,” Carson says. “Chauvet provides high quality fixtures in a compact, lightweight package that draws relatively low power making them perfect for Jägermeister’s application.”

Lighting the stage are 28 LED ColorPalettes and 20 LEDrain™ 56 narrow beam color washes, which outperform traditional power-hungry PAR cans in terms of performance, flexibility and ease of use. The great savings in power consumption afforded by the use of LEDs allowed designers to also incorporate 16 LED Technostrobes, two 1700W foggers, and three 10mW Scorpion™ Scan Fat Beam™ lasers.
