How Can You Light a Finish Line?

Lighting Designer, Avraham Mor, Among the Youngest To Achieve Professional Designation While Training for Triathlon

Chicago, IL (October 8, 2009) — Lighting Designer and Lightswitch Architectural partner, Avraham Mor, LEED AP, has been accepted as a Professional Member by the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), the professional association of architectural lighting designers. At age 30, Mor is one of the youngest people to be accepted as a Professional Member. This designation is achieved by peer review of a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates complexity, harmony, inventiveness, and realization of concept.

This status adds a special stature to Lightswitch Architectural and confirms the inherent experience and resources that Mor possesses. Members gain access to additional professional resources, tutelage and training. “Being included in this group of skilled professionals has been a goal of mine for a long time. I have achieved two major goals in the last month—I also completed the Chicago Triathlon.”

In August, Mor competed in the 27th Annual Chicago Triathlon. 9,300 people competed in this major test of endurance and stamina. Mor believes fitness keeps him sharp in his craft. “Personal goals are equally as important as major career advances,” notes Mor. Achieving challenging physical accomplishments can lead to business success. “I look at training for a triathlon as cross training for my design business. The mental and physical training required to complete a triathlon helps me keep a sharp focus at work and reinforces my self-discipline and confidence,” explains Mor, who plans to continue with his physical conditioning for next year's triathlon, and set new goals for his involvement with the IALD, now as a Professional Member.

Mor holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Architectural and Theatrical Lighting design from the University of Kansas and has earned his LEEDTM accreditation, in addition to being physically fit and a young leader in his trade. He actively participates in the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) as President of the Chicago section, and is an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). Mor's lighting design and technical expertise has been sought after and published in such publications as Architectural SSL, LD+A, and on-line in Projection, Lights and Staging News and Live Design On-Line. He has also been recognized by The U. S. Department of Energy, where he serves as a committee member and forum reviewer, and is a frequent invited speaker at Department of Energy conferences debating the future of Solid State Lighting (SSL) and luminaire technology.
