Ben Pilat is the Lighting Director / Resident Lighting Designer for Los Angeles Ballet and Assistant Professor of Lighting Design at Pepperdine University. Previously, Ben was the Resident Lighting Designer for The Attic Theatre Company in New York City. Broadway assistant and associate design credits include Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo and Master Class. Recent projects include designs for Music Academy of the West, International City Theatre, Yale, Juilliard, Commonwealth Opera, and Manhattan Theatre Source. Ben holds an MFA in lighting design from Boston University and is a member of United Scenic Artists.
Ben is drawn to light as a designer because of the power it has to transform time and space, enriching the theatrical experience. His goals in theatrical design and teaching are to create images that linger in the mind, enhance natural beauty, and illuminate thought-provoking ideas.
